Character Design: Back story

I believe that for a solid character design a back story is essential, this gives the character depth and reason, it will give the viewer a wider view of the make-up rather than just being viewed as a monster.
Model info

Model name : Hannah Webb
Age: 20
I have chosen this particular model as she has short dark hair and is small in stature, this is something I require for my final make-up.

Character info
Name: Rosemary Webb
Age: 22

Background info
'My character is going to be based around the 1940's, an era where women were still fighting for equality in such things as the workplace, before the war women would marry, have children and become housewives. In this case, my character had been tied down into married life far too early for her own good, her parents expected her to settle into the housewife routine and shortly were expecting children. However Rosemary had other plans. Whilst alone all day Rosemary began dabbling in the act of Voodoo, black magic and witchcraft, this involved trying to communicate with beings not of this realm, ritual possessions, spells and curses, she often made appearances at the black market, all the while hiding this secret life from her doe eyed husband.

Although not satisfied with her greed for knowledge in these matters, Rosemary began to delve deeper, her thirst for this art was unsatisfied. Rosemary desired most of all to be free from her responsibilities and to have her own life. She took it upon herself to find the correct spell to rid her of her 'problems' and let her be free. After a long while of searching, she came across a particular spell that seemed to solve all her problems. However, little did she know that this particular spell was in fact a curse, this curse was destined to warp her features, remove any trace of her current self and replace it, all of her memories were removed, leaving an empty husk behind....'

My idea for this character is that I would like to create a demonic creature that has taken on the appearance of a bird, or more specifically a Raven. In mythology Ravens are among birds that represent evil, death and misfortune. In my case my character will be transformed into a bird like woman who appears to people (specifically bad people) just minutes before their deaths. Props and outfit will be decided upon character design.

Assignment lowdown

I have been asked to choose a theme for my monster out of the following options
- Ancient One
-Demonic Nightmare
-Strange beauty
-Industrial Oddity
-Weird Beast
-Metamorphosis
-The Future

Immediately after receiving this list of themes the one that immediately stood out to me was 'Demonic Nightmare' this is because usual my style of work would possible fit into the 'Strange Beauty' category and I decided to challenge myself and choose a theme I feel I could still create a strong look in, would be still something I would not normally choose.

Such film characters such as 'Freddie Krueger','Jason Vorhees' jump to mind as being classic examples of demonic nightmares (literally). However in recent times films such as 'Insidious' 'The Ring' 'The Conjuring' demon characters seem to be making more and more appearances, with a crossover to the supernatural.
The character I would like to create is going to have a mixture of elements, I have established that my model will be a female, therefore I would like still like to keep it quite feminine, whilst still having the horror factor I am aiming for.
